Shooting Creek Basket Weavers Guild was born April 2002 when a dozen
North Georgia and North Carolina weavers met monthly to weave and
lunch. They began to believe there were other weavers who, if given
a place to weave, would come. Come they did. Under the leadership
of president Anne Sutherlin, bylaws were drafted and approved. During
2002, our biggest goal was getting organized, however we donated
to the community needs, entered a craft show, and established the
second Wednesday in August as the annual weave-in, which is open
to the public. These activities supported the guild's purpose, which
is promoting and advancing the art of basketry.
Since then, the guild has grown to over 60 members and has become
noted for its beautiful baskets, winning first place for the 2004
Hiawassee Arts Festival and garnering recognition for its outstanding
presentation at the Georgia Mountain Fair.
